just curious what people are using for a torque setting when tightening the bolts on the aluminum engine, transmission and transfer case skids . I did reach out to RCI and they responded hand tightening was enough, thought this was a bit strange. This is my first skid install on my own.

For those who installed the engine and transmission skid; did you have to remove the sway bar disconnect cover in order to be able to get the proper quarter inch gap?

Thanks

I understand your surprise. Sounds not really nice. I think, by tightening by hand, they probably mean without a torque wrench, just by feeling. But of course, in proportion to the size of the screws. So it imply you should have some experience. Usually in mechanics, little screws are overtighten and large undertighten. That's why particularly in the automotive field every screw is torque wrenched.

We apply a specific torque depending on the screw size, this (it may sound curious) to stretch slightly the screw shaft, so the force applied to the shaft is kept in an elastic deformation. This to avoid screw damage and avoid unintended loosening.

Not odd on something like that. Just snug them up tight and check from time to time when you change the oil
