I have a metallic rattle in my 2025 LC passenger side C pillar. Service Department at Toyota has isolated the rattle and determined that it happens only in warmer temps, and is coming from the upper seat belt bracket inside the sealed/welded pillar. The resolution offered by Toyota Service is to remove rear window and cut out a section of the body on the outside of the pillar to expose the seat belt bracket and weld as needed. I am concerned that cutting the outside body will compromise the integrity of the frame. Should I be concerned that this repair would affect the integrity of the LC frame?

It is body on frame vehicle, not a unibody. Shell outside is not structural. But cutting sheet metal to fix a rattle sounds excessive to me. Can they not access it without cutting?

Welcome to the Jungle!

The C pillar is completely sealed and welded. They have tried to access the bracket with a camera/scope from an opening at the lower half of the pillar but are unable to reach the because there is a foam piece that separates the top and bottom sections.

YES WAY!! The Toyota Service & Collision Depts. have had my LC for 3 weeks while Toyota Corp. tried to come up with a solution. Toyota Corp. basically told my local Toyota dealer to get with me and figure out a solution. This is my first time posting to a forum board like this, and I really appreciate the feedback! So far no part of the vehicle has been cut into.

IMO cutting into the pillar would be the absolute last resort! If it were mine I'd try to pass a teflon tube between the foam and steel to see if I could get the borescope into that area to verify what they are thinking is rattling and if it could be verified, I'd try injecting some panel bond through the teflon tube.

I know a piece could be cut out of the pillar and re-welded and metal finished so that you'd never be able to tell, but if it's cut and what they think is rattling isn't there, what's the point..........

Just my opinion tho'

Yeah, even filling the c pillar with some type of sound insulating material may solve this.

Its caused by wires that vibrate under certain conditions, some worse than others some not at all.
