Was able to get Lucy out for a fun short adventure over the weekend. Took some friends up to Ohiopyle state park in PA, for lunch. Came across a tail on OnX that supposedly lead to a ghost town…. The “town” left a lot to be desired, but the trail was fun. It was only a 2/10 on OnX, but it did have about five creek crossings. The water was down, so not as exciting as it could have been, but still fun to get Lucy out and get more comfortable taking her off road.
Download the carfax app it lets you record your diy oil changes. Great oil by the way, i did mine at 500 miles with the same oil ans did see some shiny particles

Definitely a great tip on the app download, thanks for the heads up! I have heard good things about the Pennzoil, wasnt sure which oil I wanted to use going in. Used Schaeffer a lot back on my Subaru STi, but wanted something a little more readily available going forward.Download the carfax app it lets you record your diy oil changes. Very nice lookin setup! I'll keep an eye out for you in the area. We have so many mountain roads/trails here in WV with spectacular views it is hard to track where we've been and seen. I'd recommend that you look into Gaia GPS as an alternative to OnX. I run both and both look and work great on the center display. IMO, however, OnX can't touch Gaia for organizing and maintaining tracks and waypoints of all these trails we have around us. I also find the older historic topos (1900, 1930, 1960, 1980) great for discovering old structures like coke ovens, furnaces, caves, springs, etc. that are fun to explore. There are a couple of Taco riders that are starting to share some trail runs in our area on OnX which is nice to see.

Glad to see a fellow WV on here! Totally agree on all the nooks and crannies that WV has. There are so many! My main concern is being somewhere I shouldn't be or getting on a trail that is going to be too much lol. I do have Gaia as well and have most of my waypoints there. But OnX is great for the trail condidtion and rating levels. Great idea for the older topos, never thought about using it to find abandoned places! I would imagine there are some good hidden gems around the state. Would definitely like some trails closer to the area, instead of always driving down towards Davis and over into MD.
There are some nice trails that I can share from Gaia that are not too much to handle solo, fun to drive and may have some sections that 4Lo will be preferred. I try to find and record trails that will not pinstripe your paint, although I do carry battery powered hedge trimmers just in case. Let me know if you would like to hit some trials in the Cheat Lake , Blacksville, Point Marion, Reivesville, Reedsville, Whiteday, Bunners, Grafton, Laurel, Kingwood, Albright, Bruceton, etc. or traverse from one to another and I will send you a recommended route. Btw, I also have a two door bronco but its 50 years older than yours.

Have taken a few short trips over the past few weeks. Lucy has acclimated very well, and made the travels very enjoyable. First trip was over to Shepardstown, WV to explore some of some of the Antietam Battlefield. It is a very surreal experience to be on the grounds of such a bloody battle. Very hard to believe what took place there 164 years ago, and the amazing hardships the soldiers faced. Very sobering experience.
Then just the other day, my wife and I woke up at 4am and make the two hour drive down to Dolly Sods for a sunrise. It awesome to watch the world wake up with the sun peaking over the far ridge. It was a brisk 35 degrees, but something I absolutely love doing! Of course had to take some photos of Lucy in her natural habitat!

Drockin - Congrats & awesome memories I’m sure in those pics. WV is quite the beautiful place - & fantastic from the air. Use to fly C130s into McLaughlin @ Chuck Yeager Field in Charleston - not too many runways are built dynamiting two mountain tops & using the spill to fill in between them!

That's awesome, I bet you have some killer stories! I grew up in Charleston (before moving to Phoenix) and used to watch the C130s take off and land there all the time! I have a pretty vivid memory of my dad taking me to an airshow there (early 90s) and getting to walk though a C130 that was there.
Had several raft trips on the Gauley that were epic!

I just spent 3 days on North Fork across the valley from Dolly Sods. That late Saturday to Sunday storm was interesting. I wisely decided to move from my tent to the LC before it hit. To whoever originally posted the three legged packable cot that comes to rest over the seat, hats off to you. It was great for a quick move and very comfortable.

This is what I used prior to the cot. A 42x30in orthopedic dog bed with rubberized bottom. Also works great but not near as packable and doesn't transition to a tent setup.

Dig the setup! I have been wanting to build something similar for mine. I have piece of 76"x30" 3/4" Birch left over from a drawer build in my F150. I have been wanting to add legs to it, so that it is level and just sleep on that for quick deployment trips.
You're a brave dude going out in that storm haha. We were down in Rowlesberg for the Cheat River Fly In over the weekend and all the planes were leaving early for the incoming weather. But that night, it was windy as hell with a ton of rain! How did you fair out in the wilderness?
Faired well. We have a bunch of us that have been going up there for over 20 years. Lots of tarps and ropes. Some years we are taking some tathered ones down. This was one of those. Thursday thru Saturday was beautiful though.
I have a number of friends that do the Fly In. Did you stay on the island? I haven't talked to anyone yet. Hopefully this year was not as chaotic as last.

That sounds awesome! It's hard to be a good camping crew. But Ive never been over to North Fork, funny enough spoke with a friend about it last week after we did Dolly Sods. Seems like Im gonna have to make an intentional trip over there to check it out lol.
We didn't stay, but we were there a good 3-4 hours. I didnt make it last year, but did see the video of the crash into the trees
. I still have a good bit of photos I need to go through and edit, but will post some once I get around to it. But most the planes were headed out once we got there, trying to beat the weather. By the time we left, I think there were maybe 3 planes on the island.
