Just got a Prado (manufactured in Feb 2025). When I connect the mobile via cable, the vehicle infotainment system starts Android Auto, and it works fine. But when I connect the mobile via Bluetooth the Android Auto doesn't start. I do not have SMART LINK installed in my vehicle infotainment system. Is it because of this? If yes, then is there a way to install the same?

i curious to hear the response to this. Mine completely ignores the cable connection and the wireless for android auto always gives me fits. I have to reconnect in the infotainment menus and half the time it tells me to connect via cable which does nothing. Manual didn't seem to mention these issues.

Maybe this will help: US versions support both Apple and Android wireless.
While European only Apple. And Android is only wired...
I'm in Kazakhstan and we have European LCs. If I want android auto I have to use a cable. Tried with iPhone - no cable is needed.

Yes, with cable I am able to connect. But in this century when even the charging is wireless, I thought how can TOYOTA make such a big mistake of not giving the wireless connection option for Android Auto.

Thanks a lot for your comments. Now I need to find a way to sideload some app that can help me with this. Hope someone who has done it can guide us.

I hope there'll be some firmware update in future...

The Prado in middle east comes with three different types of main headunit the smaller 8 inch unit in the standard trims doesn't support wireless Android Auto where the larger 12.3 inch units support wireless Android auto.

If yours has the larger unit than you need to enable wireless Android auto connection in your phone.

Hi Yousef, hope you are doing good........ A guy with Prado All-rounder and 12.3" headunit is able to connect via bluetooth but me with Prado Adventure and the same 12.3" headunit is not able to connect. Infact he try to connect his mobile to my headunit and it still needed the cable to connect.

Yes one thing that is different between both headunits is - He has SmartDeviceLink factory installed. Has anyone try sideloading the same?

make sure you are using the correct data USB port (and not one of the other 2 charging-only ports)... also could be an issue with the cable you're using, not all usb-c cables are created equal.

Maybe it's settings that needs to be changed in the headunit to allow for wireless Android auto?

i will try a different cable as you suggest, i'm using the usb port to the far left, i tried the other 2 as well. I enabled just about everything in android auto settings on phone, e.g auto connect all the time, but it made no difference.

1. Make sure that your cell phone (android)blue tooth is on and in the pairing selection
2. Go to blue tooth on your Prado screen. Select settings and then blue tooth. Turn it on . If on, go to your cellphone ...
3. Once you see your car displayed on your cellphone, select it. It should work. If not...
4. Reboot your cellphone and try again.
Good luck

Thanks a lot GBee for the suggestion. Did try the rebooting but the problem still exists.
