2025 Lancruiser 1958 model
I sometimes sleep in the back of my 2025 Landcruiser 1958 model. Does anyone know of an easy way to open the rear gate/back hatch (not just the back window) from the inside? Seems like a little handle would be nice.

There's a thread on this very subject. To answer your question, there is no easy way, there is a manual release but it's not very easy to operate.

It is possible to add an inside lock release and/or glass release buttons on the inside, however it requires removing the rear hatch trim panels and splicing into the OEM wiring. I have an FE and you can go to my build page to see how I did it.

Thank you. I had seen the thread re the glass. I’m not so sure I’ll splice into the wiring. Maybe the old “reach outside and press the button technique” will suffice. Stay safe.

I've had the actuator fail years ago in my wife's 2012 Ford Escape. Completely different platform, I know, but it had the same sort of concealed exterior button as the LC. I got it open from inside and fashioned a paracord handle that attached to the mechanism until we could get the part ordered.

This is an old video, but a good example of the sort of clean option that should be possible in the LC. Fast forward to around 9 minutes in.

Unfortunately it would be a daunting task to use a rod system for the LC. You could remove the lock/motor and weld an extension to the very small unlocking tab, but there's not any room in that location. IMO far easier to just add an additional button.

The pictures are with the hatch trim panel removed. With the trim panel installed there's not near the visibility. It is extremely difficult to remove the cubby top, the cubby tray and the cover from the inside with the hatch closed!

This is a view of the white plastic guard as you would see it with the small cover removed. You would loosen the Phillips head screw and swing the white guard counter-clockwise.

With the guard out of the way you can see the small metal unlocking tab.

You insert a screwdriver and push the tab to the right.

I’m sure the key fob has a button to release/open the rear hatch. Just press it.
I initially thought the same thing, but getting woke up from a dead sleep in an emergency situation and trying to locate the fob that might not have put in it's dedicated spot ............ Perm located switch is a better solution for me.
