Loose fuel door

I have not figured out a solution but now it won’t stay open even when level.

Bummer. Yeah mine never did stay open. I’m new to Toyota so thought maybe this was just a quirk, but seems maybe not? Strange.

Mine has never stayed open either, just a hinged piece of metal.

For anyone stating that their fuel door stays open, please share an image. There is nothing mechanical to keep the door open on mine, so it shuts easily even in wind.

The spring others have pointed to is only there as potential energy to push the door outward when the latch is released via the dash button.

I wonder if paint thickness on the fixed hinge and or rotating portion is the reason for some being tight vs loose.

Mine is loose and flops closed with the lightest breeze!

Maybe some thick beez wax or parafine on the hinges might work?

I do know from experience a spring doesn’t work as it prevents the door from opening via the button, just the slightest increase in pressure to hold it open and thus closed more securely (preventing rattles) prevents the button from opening it as well so that is a no go IME.

Paraffin is a great idea. That might be just heavy enough. I’m going to try it.

Mine is so unfortunate that it dented bc of the wind.
