I recently completed an OEM-style ambient lighting retrofit on all four doors of my LC250 1958.
The higher trim Land Cruiser models already include LED lighting in the door panels, while the 1958 does not. However, the 1958 retains the corresponding factory mounting provisions behind the door panels, which made it possible to reuse those locations instead of installing universal LED strips or drilling visible aftermarket mounting points.
I installed Toyota-style LEDs in the factory locations on all four doors. To complete the retrofit without modifying the original wiring, I also built the plug-and-play T-harnesses used for the installation.
Each harness connects inline with the factory power-window switch wiring and provides the connection for the added LED. No factory wires were cut, tapped, spliced, or permanently modified.
The complete four-door retrofit is now installed and working properly. All four power windows operate normally, auto up/down remains functional, the factory switch illumination continues to work, and the added door LEDs operate with the vehicle’s illumination circuit.
I’m also working on the upper door-handle lighting area. That part has taken longer than I expected because Toyota left the location clearly marked in the 1958 panel, but the opening itself is closed. To use that factory provision, some careful trimming/cutting of the upper panel is required, so I’m taking my time with that portion of the retrofit.
The goal was to reproduce the higher-trim door lighting as closely as possible while keeping the installation clean, reversible, and OEM-style.
I built the plug-and-play harnesses specifically for this retrofit, and they worked perfectly. I could make additional sets for other 1958 owners, but I would need to order more materials first. Let me know if there is any interest.
