Key card

I have one and now hate when I get a rental and have to have a key fob :)

Did the key card come standard or did you have to pay extra?
It is not standard, and Toyota doesn't advertise it as being compatible with the LC250. However it works fine. I purchased it from a dealership and had them program it. If you go that route make sure you bring all your keys with you because they have to reprogram the car with all of them.

CC key

I bought one and have an appointment next Friday to program and cut the key with local locksmith. Quoted $180.

What do they cut the key from? Do you get an actual key with the vehicle? Sorry to be stupid, just haven’t taken delivery of mine yet

So how much did it cost?
You can find a good deal by searching various dealers. It is best to buy it online and have it shipped to you and bring it to the dealer. If you buy it at the dealer it is much more expensive (don't ask me why). I don't remember how much the programming cost.

There are no stupid questions. We’re all here to learn. Your LC fob comes with an emergency key built if in case your fob fails for any reason. The CC key also has an emergency key built in

I’m not sure how the keys are cut. I’ll find out this coming Friday

The simple answer is "they have a machine..."

I don't know how they cut the key, only that they did. Technically you don't need the key as it will only unlock the door; you cannot use it to start the LC250 as far as I know.

When you get your vehicle, there will be a key code given to you. They will use that key code and put a template in the machine and cut the key. The other way is they will put your existing key from your key fob in the machine and the machine will trace it to cut the new key. Standard key science.

My salesman just told me that if my LC didn't come with a key card that I was out of luck, they couldn't program one

As others have mentioned, your fob has a manual key.

Key is cut with a laser tracing cutting machine....... not all locksmiths can cut this key. First 2 I tried couldn't cut it, the thrid one could but didn't want to try and program the CC to my LC, I took it the dealer, who was cheaper than the locksmith.

Depending where you purchase your CC from, it may or may not come with a key blank (mine didn't)

The CC key doesn't have any buttons and the range is less than your fob ......... touch feature to lock and unlock the doors and will enable the push to start button on the dash.

Jeh......Salesman doesn't know what they are talking about.......... my local guy said the same thing, I told him "let's give it a try".... he was amazed that it worked.

I don’t believe so either. But I do know on my Ram when my battery died on the fob I used the emergency key to unlock the door and had to hold the fob near the start button to turn the engine obo. Guessing it’s the same for Toyota’s but I haven’t looked into it

No what I'm talking about looks like a credit card but thicker, and take place of a key fob
