It’s Official — LC gets So So MPG

After driving my LC about 2,500 miles. Some hwy, most city.
I have come to the conclusion our LCs avg 13 mpg overall.
They are quick and drive exceptionally well. So that works for me.
Here’s my take on the gas mileage, I drive around town in sport mode, I get 26 to 28 miles per gallon. When I drive on the freeway I drive in normal mode and I get 20.5 to 21.5 mpg. So average around 23 mpg. I don’t believe in breaking a car in, I drive them off the lot and it’s game on.

you get better mileage driving in stop and go city traffic? That's usually only possible on a true hybrid vehicle.
I have found, that the more I drive the 58 the hybrid electric motor definitely kicks in more now than it did say at 2500 miles.

Right, and reason would follow that gas mileage differences are based wholly upon the operator driving preferences and the options they chose to add/delete from the their rig and not because gremlins at the Toyota factory are randomly sabotaging the production line to drive us all crazy. How about we never talk about this again?
Hahah tens thousands mpg comments keep rolling….in next ten years 😜 😜 😜

I just find it funny as hell how much these things vary. I was running 20.9 on average with the stock Michelins. Switched out to Nitto Grappler G3 275/70/R18's. Went down to 18.9 running at 40psi. Just accepted it as what it is when you put legitimate tires on the truck. Dropped down to 35psi and was suddenly averaging 22mpg. Outstanding! Had a week where I was doing a lot more city driving. Back down to 19.5mpg. WTF

Bottom line is that they're pigs in the city. Re-set my driver monitor to no longer see avg mpg. Much happier. It's not what these are meant to be. Be happy that the economy is better than the GX V6 and move on. Fun as hell to drive.

I’m always fascinated to see the disparities here and my numbers are similar. But I consistently get better mpg in city driving and worse on highway. I also didn’t buy this thing for efficiency or I would have gotten a Prius or Highlander. Love this thing but it is a bit of a pig even though I’ve never driven a vehicle this gently.

1958, still fully stock, no roof rack (I will be replacing the OEM tires soon, but haven't yet).

My driving is:

- about 65% Interstates and highways (edit: cruising speed generally between 65-75mph)

- about 20% rural roads (varying speeds with more slowdowns, accelerations, and lower average velocity than typical interstate highway driving)

- about 15% stop and go city driving.

Almost all of this is in normal mode...I don't think I've ever even put into 'eco' mode. I wouldn't say I have a led foot, but I don't baby it either...I tend to get up to speed quickly, and then try to maintain a constant. Using 93 octane fuel, under 1000ft elevation, mostly in very cold weather thus far.

trip averages skew a bit wildly, anywhere from 18 mpg to 26 mpg, but the vehicle is indicating 21-22 mpg tank averages.

Some posts seem to suggest that eco mode does nothing for fuel economy on this vehicle, and I've never cared for how it throttled acceleration in previous vehicles, so I don't use it.

Just hit 1k miles in our 2025 . Have been alternating full tanks of 87 and 91 octane. Combined Highway and town mpg respectively have been 20 & 26. Not as scientific a study as some posts I have seen, but reasonably accurate. With the price differential will stick to 91 .

For comparison's sake, and not a square box punching a hole through the air.... Our `19 Outback with 3.6 H6 lifetime average is currently 18.1 mpg...... This is a 98% Suburban cycle with lots of short loops in the morning / afternoon... <7 Miles. Roadtrips are better, but handicapped with a cargopod...

It does look like the current median is starting to settle in at the 18-19mpg range. Skimming the reports, low 20mpgs on longer excursions although no one is reporting their cruising speeds. I can only surmise in the 75mph range... At least that's what I wold hope for.

By the way, I am in a posted speed limit zone of 5 MPH. Perhaps that is one of the causes.

Yes--this thread has gone completely off the rails.

I'm at 13 MPG. Come hell or highwater. However, I do have a factory roof rack.
I was getting 22 before adding the factory roof rack at 4k miles. I am now at 8k miles, so I've had it on for 4k. I am down to 17.8 and likely going down more. I am looking debating a Prinsu or other rack hoping that it would make a difference, we'll see.

Hi all,
I use eco mode. I do not drive in the left lane. I do not carry any junk in my LC. I have everything OEM.
I I am feather foot. During my daily commute, I can not drive fast. Then at lights I do not do pedal to the metal. My gas is Sam's Club Regular gas. I am consistently getting 28 mpg.
That sounds impossible to be honest

Agreed, we should probably make a new BAD MPG thread to get back on topic!
