Interesting NHTSA Complaint(s) - Conversation Starters...

Been slacking in my NHTSA scrolling duties. There was only one new complaint for the LC, and it does not disappoint in hilarity. To think that someone actually believes this is a valid NHTSA complaint campaign against the vehicle:

So naturally I thought to myself, what manner of ridiculous is going on with 4runner owners. There are a bunch more of those now, and they didn’t disappoint either. Pure gold that someone actually believes this is what NHTSA campaigns are designed to resolve. Oh man, the danger!!!:

And finally, here is the lone exception. Admittedly there was a seatbelt/airbags one, but it screamed “cover your a$$” with a family not using their belts. This one though… this one is interesting:

Hmm brake issue might be legit warranty issue, but what happened before this event? Sounds like brake fluid leaked out onto hot brakes. More reasons to question recent toyota build quality. Don't make 'em like they used to!

Stock tires on both my 2010 4-runner and 2025 LC were crap. Toyota could easily obtain a true off road tire and either add it as an option or standard. The vehicle is supposed to be an off road capable truck and the stock Dunlops are worthless.

Manufacturer's accountants have a cow (and deny) when engineers request a 2 cent increase per unit build cost for REDACTED. They would faint at the idea of adding $100 worth of tire upgrades. They are in it for return on investment, nothing more.

Hmm brake issue might be legit warranty issue, but what happened before this event? Sounds like brake fluid leaked out onto hot brakes. More reasons to question recent toyota build quality. Don't make 'em like they used to!

Oh yeah, that last one is legit. The tires and spare wheel one may be legit complaints, just not NHTSA campaigns.

Reading this tire blowouts, reminded me of the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire controversy back in the olden days (2000–2001). There was a lot of discussion back then about tires failing at highway speeds and SUVs losing control. Maybe that experience is in the back of the complainant's mind here, although obviously this is a completely different vehicle and tire.

Reading this tire blowouts, reminded me of the Ford Explorer/Firestone tire controversy back in the olden days (2000–2001). There was a lot of discussion back then about tires failing at highway speeds and SUVs losing control. Maybe that experience is in the back of the complainant's mind here, although obviously this is a completely different vehicle and tire.

Wasn't that drama due to Ford setting the tire pressures lower for comfort than firestone recommended?

I read it more as them filing a complaint due to being told the tire was not a warranty item. You may be right though.

I dont remember what the conclusion was. I just remember it because I had bought my sequoia in 01 and had to make sure that I did not have the tires in question
