How do you guys clean your engine? My other Toyota is pretty good after 12 years (wheel cleaner and lots of scrubbing). Curious of how you clean the rat's nest under the Land Cruiser's hood, and if low pressure (garden hose) water is perceived to be an issue? I've never dealt with hybrid voltages under the hood.

My Tried and true method has always been:

Simple green in a spray bottle and squirt down any greasy/heavily soiled areas, avoiding the alt and electrical plugs.

Place plastic shopping bag over the alternator.

Use a baby bottle brush and/or soft bristled brush and scrub the soiled areas.

Use a garden hose without any type of "jet" nozzle attachment and rinse off......... rinse and repeat.

To finish it off, I use a leaf blower to blow off the entire engine and compartment, remove the plastic bag(s) and blow off again. Start the vehicle and let it run for 15 min or so.

Be careful with Simple Green, I don't know how much aluminum is in the engine bay on a LC, Simple Green doesn't play well with aluminium. Buy the blue bottle Simple Green, it's for aircraft.
I've been using simple green on aluminum for many, many years and haven't had an issue......... I use it almost daily to get oil off parts I've machined. I even use it as hand cleaner, I use one of those foaming soap pump containers, the best hand cleaner I've ever used.

I don't leave anything soaking in a container tho'....... There used to be, IDK if it still exists, a product called "Purple", I left an aluminum carb from a lawn mower soaking for a couple of days and when I went to rinse it off, 20% of it had dissolved! I had never seen anything like it. Needless to say I stopped using "Purple" immediately. I'll look around for the blue bottle as your precaution has merit.

Do I understand correctly that our hybrids dont have an alternator we need to cover?
