Hello from North Alabama! - First Mod - New HORN!!

Surprised nobody has mentioned this already but there is more than one thread on the horn issue... Search is your friend here. Not sure about the Hella horns but if you care to keep it OEM there is a Toyota plug-in option to help with this. I went with the Toyota option myself but some still find that not throaty enoughm for their taste, but I find it adequate, and definitely x1000 better than what comes with the truck.

I miss my stock horn, However notifying Bay Area drivers of my vehicles presence during highway use was futile. The "OEM Premium Horn" is a excellent upgrade.
Stock horn is perfect for a kind parking lot encounter or a courteous green light reminder, nothing above that

I've compared the OEM Premium Horns and the Hella Horns in great detail before I personally went with the Hella's. They are both identical in nearly every single way. Same shape, same size, same finish, same brackets, same mounting points, same 400/500Hz so they sound the same, and same connectors for easy plug-in.
The only differences I found were the branding, and most importantly, the price. If buying new, the Hella's are considerably cheaper than OEM, in some cases half the price depending on where you shop. If brand loyalty is your thing, spend the extra money on OEM, but I highly recommend the Hella's over OEM.
 
Forgot to say if you are looking for throatier sound some members recommended this 330/400 horn combo. Disadvantage is you've got to figure out how to cleanly interface it to the Toyota connectors. I was tempted but haven't had the time to figure out the connectors, etc and did not want to just cut them off as I'd like the mod to be easily reversible back to stock.
 
Many years ago, a friend came over with his new-to-him '76 Honda Civic. He was complaining about its anemic stock horn, so I offered him one that had been pilfered from a dead vintage forklift. New connectors were crimped on and it was stuffed in the original horn location in minutes. It even gave a hands-free honk if you slammed the hood too hard, so we made a cover for the terminals with heat shrink. That ended up being one of his favourite mods- It sounded like a 5 tonne truck honking after that.

I was pondering the Toyota premium horns, and you may have swayed me. I am all out of vintage forklift horns.
 
I'm going to do the same so I will order this one. I just need to find a shop to do it for me because, well I can't. HAHA
 
I put in the Hella horns on Saturday.
The passenger side is literally a one minute, 12 second job.
The driver side would work and the wire would be really tight, but I undid some of the factory wire clips to get some more length and then zip-tied the wires in a different spot so they are still secured.

Whole thing, pass side and doing all that with the driver side was 38 minutes.
Oh, I also added PPF to the top of the radiator support where the plastic cover rubs in that time. 🤓

New horns sound good.

A lady cut into my lane yesterday and I laid on the horn for the first time and sad to say I was quite embarrassed.
This BIG OL' vehicle and that teenie-weenie horn - Toyota PLEASE.

Will this fit my 2026 LC? Amazon says no - some other groups I am in say yes.

My wife is a primary driver for our 2025, 1958 LC, she has complained for the last 18 months about the “wimpy” horn. I installed a pair of these and everyone is happy.😁

Have you heard the OEM horn in person? Kinda wild to be buying modifications if you’ve never even put hands on the vehicle.
 
I tooted at a facebooker holding up traffic at a green light today and got a thank you wave. I still argue that the stock horn is perfect for getting attention without being obnoxious and creating a stand-your-ground scenario.

I agree with you. I upgraded, but I would love to have both.

Maybe one day I'll wire another button and have it work the stock horns for the happy beeps.
And then another button for an air horn for when kids on the side of the road do the honk-your-horn signal. 😁
