Is there a power source near or in the vicinity of the rear view mirror where one could access/tap into to use for a portable GPS?

I suspect the optional dashcam might be a “plug and play” component and have a power connection inside the rear view bezel.

According to what I understand most if not all Garmin units have the 12v cigarette lighter cord. (2) issues I would like to work through:

1. I don’t believe there is a cigarette lighter port in the dash of the LC.

2. A long power cord dangling down to the usb-c ports is undesirable.

Any assistance/information is appreciated.

Dongar makes a number of adapters that will grab power from either the rear view mirror (Homelink/digital mirror equipped Land Cruisers) or the map light console. If you want a similarly priced to cheaper solution, Toyota offers "Y" cable intended for use with their OEM dash cam that plugs in. Map the pins in their plug (available online), cut the end off the unused plug and there is your switched 12V, constant 12V and ground.

Ok cool. Thank you.

So, the factory “Y” cable sounds like the solution for me.

Have you employed this cable?

If yes could we speak more about the mapping of the plug, installation and removal of the bezel to access the connection point(s).

Also do you have part number for the cable?

I wasn’t mounting a GPS, I was installing a dash cam. I had ordered a Dongar Pro + for it, and feedback from another forum member informed me that it wasn’t going to work with the dash cam I had purchased (BlackVue).

I finally got my Dongar adapter and mocked things up to test. It initially seemed like it was going to work so I installed the cam. I found it wasn’t working for parking mode and the cam would go off with ignition in spite of trying to use “timer mode” on the Dongar Pro +. I researched other options in hopes of avoiding hardwiring and running the required cables- the Toyota “Y” adapter looked like it would work to give switched/unswitched power and ground. I was going to order the Toyota “Y” adapter and thought about cutting the end off the Dongar piece but in messing with some settings in the Dongar adapter before a shift at work I was able to get parking mode working.

I don’t have the part # any more (phone incident), but can probably look it up when I am at home

^^ caveat, that thread on Tacoma World is dealing with a 2023. Some of the plug configurations map the same on older model years and some do not. The pin configurations and type vary depending on whether you are tapping the rear view mirror or map light connector.

You could also source whatever Dongar adapter is cheapest if that is the lowest cost option and cut the plug off for bare wire ends to connect your GPS.
