Deciding on tires

Hey all -

Apologies in advance for the multiple questions but hoping some of the members can help me make a decision on tires. I've read through the forums but struggling to decide on a set. Any help would be appreciated!

Criteria:
  • SL load
  • OEM 18" LC wheels (18x7.5)
  • Majority on pavement with some light off road throughout the year. 3PMSF wanted.

Questions:
1. 265/70 vs 275/70? I know AT's generally take an MPG hit but is the MPG hit on a 265 vs 275 essentially the same? I prefer the looks of 275 but wondering if there are any other cons to running them over the OEM size.

2. If I go with 275s, will I need an alignment? I'll be coming from the OEM 20s to the OEM 18s LC (thx jbtaco2002!). The overall diameter of the wheel only changes from 32.6 to 33.2 so I assume I likely won't need one?

3. Nitto G3 vs Toyo AT3 EV. Seems like these are the only 275s in SL (don't think i want to go with Generals). Friends in the 4R community and my mechanic friend is telling me, I can't go wrong with either of them for my use. Anyone have experience with both of these have an preference on one over the other?

Thank you all!

I agree the 275s look substantially better.

Personally I think a lot of people overclub the tire vs their use case for aesthetics. They end up with cool tires but pay for them with noise and MPG impact in the 99% of driving they do on the highway. Iโ€™ve done that myself in the past.

Next time around I might look at one of the mild AT highway tires like the Conti TerrainContact AT or the Goodrich Trail Terrain. Or even just lay up and get Michelin Defenders, which admittedly donโ€™t look as cool but are fantastic tires. If I decide to hit the Rubicon, my error.

I have been enjoying the Bridgestone Dueler A/T Ascent in 265/70R18 size.

They seem just as quiet as the OEM Geolanders and I have only seen a 1-2 mpg hit in mileage at highway speeds.

These will be my next set of tires. Everyone says they are very quiet, and give a very good ride.

While I'm using the BFG KO3s in the stock OEM size of 265/70 R18 124S RWL and like them very much, I might suggest that you look at the Nokian Outpost nAT (265/70 R 18 116S). From what I have heard from others and read, they perform extremely well in all seasons on both tarmac and trail.

Those do seem to be well thought of.

I just put nokian outpost nat on my wifeโ€™s Nissan Titan XD and they are very quiet and ride very well for LT E load tires. Only a couple hundred miles on them so far so I canโ€™t speak to longevity or snow traction.

275 ATIIIs and love them. The ride quality is fantastic, they perform great on pavement, and in the wet, snow, mud, and dirt, and I do not find them loud at all. They also ride better and corner better then the OEM Michelin crap that came stock.

275/70 give you a bit more clearance and the speedometer and mileage are actually more accurate so no downside in my opinion over the 265/70
