So, the super awesome Cool Box that takes up my center console doesn't always work like a cool box. The manual states on p. 496 that when the temperature is below 0 Celsius or 32 F, the Cool Box may not operate. Well, it was slightly above freezing when I had four items that needed to be cold in the cool box on a 3.5 hour drive and arrived home to find that the "Cool Box" was hotter than the interior. So, if you're carrying something that needs to be kept cold in the wintertime, your Cool Box is useless. Just another reason to hate the Cool Box!

The cool box was the number one reason I went with the 1958.
Well. The round lights too.

ah, that explains my warm seltzer on my trip home after new years! thx

Has anyone swapped out the coolbox for something else? Replaced it with the standard box?

There is a thread that has the cool box schematics in there. Seems way to complicated for a simple swap and it's tied to the AC system.

Yeah, and can you imagine what this does to your warranty? Toyota probably bans you life long from any warranty if you rip that thing out.
We also have r1234yf refrigerant, aka propane, so if anyone does remove it, best know what your doing. I agree, dealer likely wouldnt go near it if we hacked it up.
