Are your mirror stalks symmetrical?

Just realized that the mirror stalk on passenger side is tilted inwards while the one on driver side is fully parallel to the window (attaching pictures of both).

I am not sure if this was always the case or some how passenger side got bent inwards. It is not really and issue but I am curious if it was designed this way?

For what it is worth, the viewing angles left/right for a left hand drive vehicle are different. You need a greater angle to see down the passenger's side of the vehicle from the driver's seat. If these were symmetrical left to right, you'd have a hard time getting an optimal view in your passenger's side mirror.

Where I am located, there have been many right hand drive JDM vehicles imported (even though we have left hand drive here as a standard). I can usually pick one up in my rear view mirror based on the angle of the left side mirror stalk. Every now and then, I'll get a chuckle when a vehicle pulls up beside me with a large dog sitting in what would normally be the driver's seat giving the illusion that Fido is the driver.

Not straight. I showed this to a dealership who said they could not reproduce the issue. What’s there to reproduce?!?! It’s crooked straight from the factory… 😅

Sure but can’t we adjust view angles by adjusting the angle of the mirrors? I have never seen a vehicle where stalks for side view mirrors have different angles with respect to the vehicle.

But if they all came out of the factory like that, I will assume it is by design.

Hard to tell from your photos because they aren’t each taken from precisely the same relative angle - but they look symmetrical to me.

I will take better pictures tomorrow but they are not symmetrical. Passenger mirror stalk is rotated slightly more towards the window. Like the red lines on passenger side are not parallel on passenger side, but they are parallel on drivers side.

There wouldn’t be sufficient swivel inside the mirror head to do that.

I suppose you could order a JDM right side mirror assembly to have them symmetrical left/right but I suspect there would not be enough adjustment in it once installed.

I have a theory that this is why the driver’s side mirror generates as much wind noise as it does. I don’t hear it on the passenger side, which is more aerodynamic. Someday I’d like to open up the driver’s side mirror and see if I can’t adjust the angle a little bit to help with this. As mentioned above, it could only be adjusted as far as to ensure there is still adequate mirror glass adjustment.
