Apparently, in 2024 the RAV4 surpassed the F-150 as the most popular car in the US in terms of sales. I noticed that Toyota is not planning to offer the 2026 in our market with anything other than a hybrid.....

I saw an article that mentioned that... and yup, the 2026+ up models are all Hybrid. The GR Sport version is going to be 320hp which seems like an awful lot for a RAV4. Should be pretty neat!

Yeah it is a plugin hybrid with 50 mile electric only range. Such a nice package.

Neat, I assume this in collaboration with the moderators of r/Rav4Club?

My wife really likes them so I am guessing we will have one in the future (or that mini Land Cruiser if it comes here)

Thanks for sharing the info.

It makes a ton of sense…

For one, just because it surpassed the F150 in sales (assuming that’s true), doesn’t mean it’s competing against it in terms of individual buyers…i.e. folks shopping for an F150 aren’t cross shopping a RAV4…it’s competing against the CRV, Outback, the Escape or Bronco Sport, etc…

For the 5th gen RAV, the hybrid was definitely the more popular model, with better horsepower numbers and performance. My guess is that most folks shopping for an RAV either specifically want the hybrid, or at the very least are fine it being one. (Though I’m sure there will be some very vocal opinions being made to the contrary on the more enthusiast-centric sites)

Moving to all hybrid simplifies choices among consumers, and likely simplifies production as well…and the increased fuel economy on a vehicle that sells so many units has to help with their CAFE status as well, which for an auto company that still sells a lot of full sized trucks and body-on-frame SUVs, I assume is a help to them.
