A warning about stock wheel "take-offs" and TPMS sensors.

My dealer just quoted me $600 for Toyota sensors plus $300 more to mount them in the tires. I’d asked because to the OP’s point I bought take-offs with aftermarket sensors that I could not get to work.

I’ve spent as much time on the problem as I care to and I’m definitely not paying $900 for installed Toyota sensors. I’ll drive this summer with the light on and then in the fall when it’s time for the Blizzaks, I’ll have those moved to my new wheels along with the OEM sensors and swap tires seasonally on that set of wheels.

The TPMS sensor thing is way too hard to make work on these.

I did the same with mine. A local shop charged me $180 to move the sensors from the stock wheels to the BBS wheels. I thought that was reasonable.

I just want to add that driving without sensors is not something I'll be doing. I had a sidewall tear on a rocky FSR and the tire went flat in a few seconds. I'm sure if the sensor hadn't gone off my rim would have been damaged.

Made in Germany, so I assume quality and durability aren't an issue...

The thing is: my Costa Rican TXL did not come with TPMS on the wheels..., so I assume my car does not have the TPMS interface installed to receive the signals, or to show the pressure..., therefore I am stuck with manual inspection, I suppose...

And knowing than in Europe any Renault or Fiat that costs US$ 20.000 actually has TPMS nowadays...

You might check the dash gage cluster to see if the tire pressure screen is available as an option to display. If it is, I'd guess the receiver is installed and the sensors weren't

Thanks much for information. With your 2 sets, LC recognized 10 TPMS, correct?

I may try this and report if it works:
• 1st set: as current great as 4 main 35” + spare 33” (underneath cargo)
• 2nd set: same 4 main 35” + spare 35” (remove/take off the underneath spare 33”)
—-> worst scenario: off-road with spare 35” and just temporary ignore the “malfunction light” of the spare until get back home

I have two complete sets of wheels for my LC. The LC recognizes all 10 sensors. However, the LC can be a little slow to recognize sensors whenever I rotate my tires or change from my street wheels (OEM) to my off-road wheels, even though all ten sensors are OEM. When that happens, I typically go back into the menu and tell the LC to try again.

Maybe another reason to get the Tacoma wheels? I paid $75 for a full set of five TPMS P/N PTR42-3507B for the Tacoma wheels PTR56-35242-F1.

I paid $369 (with tax) for a set of OEM TPMS from a local dealer. I had the TPMS installed at no charge when I had tires mounted on the rims.

My aftermarket sensors did eventually wake up. It just took about a month.

I went with these at $23 a sensor and had no issues with my 2026 recognizing them instantly.
