Coming from an 07 FJ, I’ve found myself to be outsmarted by all the new options of my 2025 Land Cruiser. So, before I contact the dealer, was curious if anyone had any thoughts about a backup sensor issue with towing.
First day I towed I was learning all the bells and whistles. While I put it in tow/haul mode, I did not disable any sensors so….of course is slammed on the brakes when backing up. Eventually I found the button on the lefthand side to disable the park assist, and I towed for several days with no issues.
Fast forward a few weeks and I went to tow again (again in tow/haul) and pressing the park assist button off no longer prevented the brakes from being engaged. I read the manual and saw that if you use a 7-pin light connector then many sensors would automatically be disabled. So, I found an adaptor and many sensors did indeed disable immediately…once. But then it still slammed on the brakes. I then put the 4-pin back in and turned all sensors off and then one by one turned them on to try to pinpoint the problematic sensor. I then couldn’t get it to slam on the brakes if I tried.
I then put it back in with the 7-pin and now one of the sensors automatically turned off as before. I did all sorts of fidgeting with sensors, turning things on and off….and it just seems very sporadic as to what does and does not prevent the car from automatically braking with the trailer attached.
It feels like a call to the dealer is in order, but just trying to make sure I am not being outsmarted by my own car.
