2024 Land Cruiser First Edition
Finally got a rock that caused a significant chip that instantly turned into a crack that continues to grow (over a foot now).
My beef is that the dealer says windshields are delayed at least 6 months to a year.
Who makes cars without replacement parts!?!?! I never would have purchased the vehicle if I was told that I woudn't be able to replace the windshield.
I find this to be utterly frustrating and frankly, I question the safety as the crack increases in size. A significantly cracked windshield cannot be as safe as a normal windshield.
Toyota corporate was pathetic and of no help. The local dealer claims to be trying, but without success, and that might just be lip service.
I like my Land Cruiser, even despite it averaging under 20 mpg, but this strikes me as a deal breaker.

Call Toyota Corporate, they can be very helpful. Dealers typically stink.

I had the 2003/4 4R Dashboard recall/warranty issue. Went to the dealer and waited, and waited, after a year the dealer was still doing the "We haven't seen any, Toyota hasn't shipped them" bit. Called Toyota and explained the situation, Got a phone call the next day asking if I could bring it to them in a couple of days. Toyota moved quickly.

eta: I was in my local dealership waiting to get my deposit a couple of weeks ago, a lady with a new LC had taken a hit, they quoted her 2-3mo. The dealership had also one take a hit during shipping, I TD it, 2wks later it was at the front of the lot with a new window. So, it is do-able.

Did you check with Satellite Auto Glass or any of the aftermarket suppliers? It is just a windshield so it should not be a major issue.

Thanks, but I'm not getting any favorable feedback from anyone (dealer, corporate or Third Party vendors). Corporate was a joke.

No luck with any third party supplier yet.

Got a crack coming home from deer hunt- no windshields and Safelitte cannot repair because the crack is on the edge-$1800 for new windshield installed and calibrated- just gonna wait- crack isn’t growing so far- about 3 months in-

I got a chip on my way home from the dealer on Friday after I bough mine and it immediately cracked halfway across the windshield. I was tome 6 months too, $1,200 is the quote I got.

Safellite could not repair my windshield and two Toyota dealerships have no idea when they can get one. Is there a problem with the LC windshield and its being sourced to a different producer? I've owned numerous new Toyota's and find this very surprising. Does anyone have a name and contact info for a Toyota corporate exec?

For the part I needed I just called the main corporate number and they started a parts case. Then I reached out to a friend at the local Toyota plant and he sent in to exec committee. They called but told me the parts case guy was one step ahead of them. Tell them how disappointed you are to buy an expensive vehicle that they can’t support with parts after selling hundreds of thousands worldwide. Pretty sure I used this number. They have been pretty responsive. +1-800-331-4331

I emailed the CEO and other Toyota executives. I informed them of the windshield issue (and also that I own 2 other Toyotas). I heard back quickly from the CEO's trouble shooter who was very responsive but admitted they have no idea when I would get a new windshield. They assigned a case # and said they'd follow-up. I remain amazed that Toyota reintroduced the LC and yet has no replacement windshields. It will make me think twice before I buy another new Toyota.

This is beyond ridiculous. I got my “back ordered” part in about 2.5-3 weeks, but I am guessing my timing was just decent and the parts were in route anyway. Not having windshields ( really any parts) for a model sold worldwide for $50-75k selling prices is pretty bad product support. I was happy with my resolution, but this situation is just terrible. Sorry you ate having to go through all this.

Funny - very similar issue and path here. I also asked if Toyota would consider buying the car back (give me my $ and I'll go buy a brand new 1958 - no harm, no foul), which prompted a very quick call to the local dealership who said they could change the windshield since there are "five windshields in region". That was last Friday, and fast forward to today, and they went radio silent. It's amazing that Toyota put a car with a vertical windshield in market with no plan to provide parts for said windshield. Mind you, this issue pre-dated the tariffs. Anyway, it's unfortunate b'/c I really enjoy driving the truck, but this is fairly ridiculous.

I also note that there are few (no) LC's at the three dealers where I live and I see very few on the road. I wonder if Toyota isn't having bigger issues with the LC. Also, someone told me that third party windshield manufacturers are not making them either. I've heard of "Lemon Laws" pertaining to new cars and wonder if that is an option. With this windshield design you have to imagine this will be an issue for the life of the car.

Isn't it illegal to drive in some (or all) states with a cracked windshield? So, you're just supposed to risk getting pulled over and ticketed until they can get their act together?

Received today from Toyota on my windshield case#:

Yes, my Toyota Service Rep told me it is illegal in Pa.
Even if you wanted to sell it or trade it in, who is going to buy a car with a busted windshield? I was told that this is "common for new models." Maybe so, but potential lack of use and reduced value of the unfixable car should be priced into the first model year.

It might be a waste of my $700, but I just had XPEL Window Protection Film installed in prep for my 6000 mile summer road trip. I'm hoping it protects me so I don't have to deal with the windshield backorder issue. It is super clear and no distortion. If it fails to protect my windshield, I'll report back that it was a total waste of money. By the way, praying didn't help protect my Mercedes from a cracked windshield during last year's road trip. But at least that windshield was available within a day.
