Hello everyone,

I am currently planning my setup for the summer vacations and I am on the last items to get.

Windows vent. For people who are sleeping in the LC, what do you use?
I found these on aliexpress

They have a kind of mesh inside so they should be ok for mosquitoes and should be pretty rainproof with the way they are made. The ventilation might be minimal because the opening are pretty small.

The other is the rokblolkz
Rokblokz

The ventilation should be more interesting but I would probably have to add the rain deflector on top of the window make it more rainproof.

Anyone tried those or any other method?

And for the sleeping platform, I haven’t seen much canadian option but I like the Colfax camper drawer and platform system. Someone also shopped and got recommendation?

Thank you!

Ahh, if I were camping in Canada, that'd be a completely different story 😂

Down here in Texas, it's the humidity that gets you - at least 80F (night) with 80-100% humidity feels horrible. Mornings are guaranteed 100% humidity, everything is soaked.

I'm usually camping on the beach, and the bugs on the coast are the next issue. Some of these horse flies can withstand 20 mph winds, and OFF doesn't work on them 😥 and then the no-see-ums come out at night in force...

The beach has been absolutely wrecked lately from sargassum and heavy currents. See all that decaying seaweed? Super strong ammonia smell everywhere due to decomposing...

With all that crap mentioned above, it's very nice to just hide away in the truck overnight and sleep 😂

Thanks for your sugestions! I think I will try window sock for sure!
I will also try with just a thermacell I just got, but theres many places in Quebec where flies and mosquitoes really are something!

For the sleeping platform, are you mostly using home made platform?

I've got a slide out sleeper from air down gear up! Pic it's not deployed but that top piece slides out once the seats are down.

I did DIY out of extruded alum, see my build page for the details. Also did a fridge slider and "Delta 3 pro" platform. All of which can be installed or removed in approx 5 min. It's all light weight and easy to store when out of the LC.

I’ve been running the window socks on the rear windows for the past year, works well enough but I’m actually going to give the AUS SnapShades a try since these socks won’t work for me in the winter.

I am super happy with my Solid WoodWorx drawer/platform. Full season of car camping and it has proven to be a perfect combo of lightweight and functional.

Thank you for the input!

What upgrade do you get from the snapshade vs the window sock? I felt the window sock was interesting because the window can be partly raised to control the amount of vent!

I'm waiting for wheels and feels to make a storage/slide out table that can widthstand a lot of weight that doesn't rob of much height. they have one for the gx... just waiting for someone to buy one for the LC so they post an image.

SnapShades affix to the inside of the window frame vs over the entire frame like a sock does. Either work well and allow you to adjust air flow by raising or lowering the window, but in the winter the window sock can get frozen in place by snow/ice….which doesn’t allow for easy removal or the ability to scrape the rear windows. That’s the working hypothesis anyway.

I have rain guard, the metal ventilation panels.
I also put air filter between the panel and metal mesh( you can sandwich it.)
And I have mesh.
I shall see how much difference makes this summer.
