If you can get a 1958 in the low to mid $50s, it is arguably a better value for what you get than its competition (4runner, Bronco, Wrangler, Passport)

If you like the features, the LC premium is a better value than the GX or Defender.

So everybody is a winner 🏆

I lake the engine and features of GX550 Overtrail+, but it will take me couple of years to afford the upgrade. So far LC Premium fits the bill for me.

I would rather have a 6th gen. 4Runner than 1958. Please do not take any offense - it is just my very subjective personal opinion.

So, I would see a lot of reviews of the 1958, and many echoed the same sentiment regarding opting for the 4Runner...to me though, it just depends a lot on what features one values on a vehicle. So many reviews with statements like "I can't believe a $58K vehicle only comes with cloth manually-adjusted seats" or "I can't believe the lack of soft-touch in the interior", etc....and I get that, to a degree...

To me though, I wanted a Toytota first and foremost, and yeah, I definitely compared the 4Runner...what I preferred about the LC 1958 was the fact that still had the hybrid power train and full-time 4WD...I may have had to "sacrifice" some luxury features, but I don't really care about those (I've owned a few "SR5" level 4Runners and Tacomas in the past), I was mostly interested in driving and off-road capability, and the 1958 doesn't really deviate that much from the higher trim levels in that regard; by the time I get a 4Runner spec'd out with those features, I'm likely paying more than I would for a 1958 (or about the same)...and I very much prefer the more conservative, under-stated design of the LC over the new 4R, so it was an easy decision for me.

First edition.
And as I stated before-It's my my very subjective personal opinion.
FE vs LC Premium fails the money vs value test in my book.
I got FE roof rack(great addition) for $500(sold my original roof rails and cross bars for $540 on eBay), JAOS mud flaps for about $280 delivered and I do not care for the round headlights(again, my personal opinion).
I can get 18" wheels later for the fraction of the difference between LC Premium and FE price.

Subjective personal opinion: I hate leather, fake leather and vinyl. Grew up driving 60’s muscle with only vents, the PTSD is real. Wife loves it, so she always gets it.

The 58 is mine, and I am a simple guys. Went from years of me being in a Taco and her in 4Rs to a short stint in a couple Hondas. I was being medically retired, we had equity in our Yotas and we had just gotten back east after years in PNW/SoCal, so we prioritized MPGs by getting her a Pilot and me a civic (leather/cloth respectively). However, we landed on our feet and I bought her a loaded Seauoia. Now it was my turn.

I looked at the new 4Rs first… I’m a Taco guy who has always drooled over LCs (drove 70 series during my overseas stints). The 4R was a logical leap for me. However, this new generation seemed to swallow me up inside. Like my civic, I fall into the seats. They are comfortable, but I am immediately aware of the Taco/4Rs shared geometry up front. Being 6’2”, on the lowest seating position, I’m 2” from the roof liner and my legs are out in front like I’m in a civic. Not comfortable posture, and prying myself out is a chore. I tested this in a flare (had my ablation yesterday) so I immediately identified it as incompatible for my specific circumstances.

Got into a LCLC prem. It was night and day, didn’t sink down into the seat, knees can bend and feet are much lower than my hips. Headroom though, with the sunroof, maybe an inch. Jumped over to a 58 and all things are right in the world. Same seating posture. Durable, retro cloth seats, feet below my knees and 3”+ of headroom for vertical adjustment during flares.

I don’t knock people for their choices. Sometimes it’s frugality, or just basic necessity. Mine was the latter. I do judge people for judging, or letting their a$$hole hang out (oops, is it opinions instead of a$$holes? I get them confused because they are so similar). I’m happy, I’m happy we live in a world where you all can be happy, and I’m happy to see all of the amazing personalization and utilitarianism that takes place in communities like this.

You do you, I’ll do me, we can meet for drinks in the middle.

LC base, I didn't want a sunroof, so no premium for me. The Softex is very nice.
When I was purchasing base models without the premium package were literally nonexistent. Glad you found one! My perfect spec would have been a premium package without a sunroof, but…my son likes standing out of the open sunroof sometimes when we’re off road, so hey. 🤷‍♂️

This, when choosing between the LCLC and 58, no non-premiums were anywhere to be found. W/ the sunroof being the main deciding factor I went 58.

Just curious what the % of people on this forum are driving.
OP, LC/Premium is not a trim level. Premium is a feature package. Also, you excluded the trims outside of the USA. If you actually want to know what the ratio is, you should add:

  • GX / Base
  • GXL / VX / VX-R / Altitude
