What is everyone keeping in the cargo area storage compartments? So far I have:

-Trailer hitch
-Bungee cords
-Ratchet straps
-Recovery gear
-First aid kit
-Multi-tool
-Li-ion jump starter with flashlight
-Portable kettle

Still some more room. Couldn't imagine having this stuff strewn about - I for one am a fan of the raised floor!

In the front storage area:
- Original Toyota tool bag with tire wrench, screwdriver and jack handle
- Trailer hitch
- Anti-rattle for trailer hitch
- Basic OBD2 scanner
In the rear storage area:
- Hiking poles
- First aid kit
- Flashlight
- 3 antennas with magnet mounts: VHF/UHF, VHF, CB
In a plastic compartmented box "stuffed" between the trunk wall and dog crates so it can't move around:
- Small backpack
- Emergency blanket
- Recovery strap
- Small air compressor, emergency tire repair kit, tire pressure gauge
- Handheld VHF/UHF transceiver, mobile VHF transceiver, handheld CB radio
- A bag with a variety of tools (pliers, 4 screwdrivers, half-a-dozen wrenches, fuses, basic electric circuit tester)
In the small comportment on the passenger side:
- Multitool
- Folding hunting knife
- Compass
In the small compartment on the driver side:
- Anderson powerpoles 30A outlet wired directly to the battery (with dedicated 30A fuse)

and last but not least ... 2 medium size dog crates for our four-legged family members on top of the battery.

This is actually one of my complaints about the LC compared to the Highlander I used to drive. I find the Land Cruiser storage space to be very small. This is why I had to buy and install the plastic box in the LC's trunk because there wasn't enough space to keep all the essentials organized.

The Highlander had only two storage compartments under the trunk floor but they were much, much bigger, so all the stuff mentioned above (except the dog crates of course) fit neatly in there, out of sight. The Highlander storage space was actually big enough to store a folding military shovel, a fire extinguisher and a set of HF antennas (each 48" long) with a large magnet mount in addition to all the items listed above. The only thing I couldn't store in the under-floor compartment was a set of tire chains. The same applies to the glove box and the central console, BTW. The ones in the Highlander were at least two times bigger. The glove box was big enough to store a road atlas and a couple of books in addition to the car manuals. And the Highlander had a very useful storage shelf across the dashboard to keep small stuff handy. Toyota could have done better with storage space in the LC.

Unibody vehicles tend to have more underfloor space but, as far as I know, it’s not common for body on frame vehicles.

Snowshoes, shovels, spare boots, coal ash. Tow rope, saw, and more coal ash in the tote. GPS, water, gloves, and bonnet in the backpack. First aid kit.

right now, just a first aid kit, fire extinguisher, a pair of gloves, and an emergency blanket...
