Hey folks, I'm prepping for towing across the country (retiring from the Air Force, wooo!), New Mexico to Maine. We're looking at renting a Uhaul 12ft enclosed trailer for our immediate needs (most items are going into storage while we find a house).

I've never towed so be kind... Some Internet searches brought my to the BulletProof 4" drop hitch, "should" do the trick for the Uhaul trailer but I figured I'd reach out for assistance. I'm not set on any particular brand, we plan to get a small utility trailer next year for moving stuff at our forever home.

Thoughts?

Your main concern should be the amount of drop from the receiver mount to the ball surface.

If you get a zero drop (straight) your trailer will tow "nose" up, you get a 12 inch drop and your trailer will tow "nose" down and very dangerous. Load the cargo area with 500lbs of stuff and that will drop the receiver height etc............

I have always shot for a happy medium ............. Cargo weight + trailer tongue weight and the trailer's frame should sit level or slightly nose up. Goodyear helper air bags for the rear coil springs will greatly assist in leveling thing out. Super easy install, especially if you don't plan on making them a prem install (short air lines and the Schrader valve just hanging vs mounted)
Something like this for the LC....

How sure are you that those will work for our LC’s?

I had a link for the ones I thought would fit the LC, but can't find it and was too lazy to research it etc........ I have installed helper bags in several vehicles, basically you jack up the rear of the vehicle using the frame vs the axle, to obtain max stretch on the springs, slip the deflated bag between two of the coils of the spring, air the bag up a small amount, while centering it in the springs...... rinse and repeat until the bag is fully (maybe 1/2 lb of air). Lower the vehicle off the jack, so it resting on the suspension, and inflate to the recommended PSI for the load you are carrying. Once unloaded, I normally ran approx 1/2 to 1 lbs of air.... stock ride.

In the old days we used to use a footbal........LOL
