Taking delivery of my 1958 this weekend or early next week. Negotiations are done and I'm good with everything physically added. I've searched through this forum and a couple others but still don't have a great answer. The SE Toyota brochure for TOYOGUARD is trash with "up to ##,### miles..." abound.

For my fellow SE region LC buyers, what the heck am I actually paying $699 for? What is this generic exterior and interior protection they speak of? (Are there actual physical products applied? Can it be verified complete?) Is there ROI, or should I have this intangible removed? Thanks!

I would worry that the “treatments” impart some undesirable smell or change in the feel of the otherwise excellent cloth covered seats. Not willing to take that chance.

My seats are black fabric so no real worries about stains.

To me, it sounds like a dealer money grab. I passed on all the additional warranty items. Maybe if you have kids it might be the way to go.
I have three little girls and a Belgian Malinois service bork bork that goes everywhere with me. They could coat the entire interior with 2" of resin and those 4 would find a way to mess something up. That's why I went with the '58 in the first place.

I'm really more concerned with how much maintenance coverage is added to the standard Toyota Care and whether an actual exterior sealant is applied since it is mentioned in the brochure as such.

These are dealer add ones and are always a money grab. Do you think Toyota would manufacturer a vehicle without adequate upholstery protection?

No, you’re right. I guess my secondary concern is whether or not, if I tried to have it removed at signing, they would claim that the product had already been applied, and how I might be able to refute and/or mitigate that claim. I had a successful negotiation so I’m not stressing a $699 addition more than offset in negotiation. But, I would like to see ROI outside of a couple more free oil changes.

I'm sure they will say that. No harm done.
