Has anyone else had issues with smells in the car? Right when I bought this car it had a very bad smell of burnt plastic, which I was told was from the break-in - this lasted for awhilie, especially when I was accelerating. It went away after a couple months.

Now that it's gotten hotter out, I've noticed a new smell - rotting/garbage/tire (if you can imagine that all mixed together). I smell it when I open the doors and sit in the car initially - once I start driving and have the AC on, it kinda goes away after a couple minutes.

I have the 1958 model with the cloth seats, and the wife thinks that it could be from the cloth seats, but I find it hard to believe because nobody else has complained about this. Other option is a dead animal in the engine bay, but I feel like the smell would get more pungent over time and wouldn't go away so fast after I start driving.

I smelled the air coming out of the vents and it smells fine, so I doubt it's something in HVAC.

Brought it into the dealer and they said they can't smell anything; but my whole family has confirmed the smell when initially entering the car after it's been sitting out for awhile in the heat.

Any ideas?

There are a few threads on this topic, a few different people experiencing the same and others offering solutions.

I tried searching, but didn't find exactly what I wanted. Some were talking about fuel/exhaust smells; but this is different. I've already experienced all those other smells in the beginning, and thankfully they went away.

I noticed that odd smell too, and I thought I was crazy. Thanks for confirming my relative sanity 😁. It went away thankfully. I too thought it was a dead animal, but it never got worse. I noticed it most in the rear cargo area when I opened the hatch, I wonder if it could be related to the rear A/C?? Fwiw, I had the burnt smell too, this was definitely not that smell. '25 1958

I figured out what it was.

Experienced a similar odor, something like rotting food. Checked everywhere and found nothing. Resorted to a pine tree freshener which seems to have resolved. Surprised with a 3 month vehicle of such a pungent smell.

Yeah, I've never had these smells in any other vehicle I've purchased. Sure you have the typical new break-in smell, but that went away quickly (1-2 weeks).

Glad I found this thread. Hoping the burning smell goes away in a few weeks. Loving it otherwise so far.

I thought it was my A/C too, but there is a few threads about the window seals on the doors letting in water and that may be potential source of the smell.

Mine smells like crawfish boil or old bay. Closest smell it reminds me of. I have softex. I’d like to air it out, but it’s hot, humid, and buggy here.

Someone mentioned water and window seals, when I changed out my door speakers, there was a small amount of water in the oem speakers.
