Land Cruiser J250 2025
Hello! I got a brand-new J250 with 2.4L turbo gas engine. It does not have hybrid drive system. I am new to off-road driving and eager to learn how to explore.

What is the problem with the hybrid drive? It was my dream to have a hybrid car. When I realized the one here is not hybrid, I was very disappointed.

The hybrid system on the LC does not improve fuel economy to any degree, but is essentially a power boost. This, and battery chemistry is rapidly evolving.

Love to see someone state that reality so directly. I’d add that thinking about and driving to achieve fuel economy should be about the 100th thing on the list.

Wouldn't it be accurate to say that it does improve fuel economy, in the sense that a traditional engine delivering the hybrid's performance would have to be larger, and would then have worse MPG? So in effect, doesn't the hybrid enhance fuel economy if you want the same performance?

Welcome, and sorry you don’t have the hybrid drivetrain available to you! Many (including here) are confused that it is intended as a fuel efficiency improvement, and are disappointed that it doesn’t achieve that. The hybrid provides significant power at low RPMs - exactly where you want it!

The hybrid is definitely at its brightest spot during low RPM power needs. The fuel efficiency is not the real intent with the hybrid in the LC, however, I think you can leverage it for some fuel efficiency after a while of driving the car and getting the feel for the way it drives and when the hybrid or turbo kick in.

Don't forget those really good sand tires and split rims.
3 day visit required if invited by the Bedouins into their encampments.
Fire extinguishers and i new Igloos filled with ice are the Bedouin gifts of choice.
Maybe you know these things and more,,,
Turkish fort ruins, Roman encampment aereas untouched for metal detecting of untold treasures.
Don't forget your permit clearing with the local Umdah. Maybe you know how that works.
Enjoy.

People should not be confusing the LC's power optimized hybrid setup with the efficiency optimized setups in the RX350H Lexus or Highlanders but to entirely dismiss their ability to also have the added advantage of enhancing (sometimes greatly) gas mileage in a way not possible in a pure gas setup, is also a mistake. I have the electric boost gauge showing on the left side of the display and the turbo boost on the right side and it's interesting to see the software and algos call on one or the other or both simultaneously depending on where you are in the power band, the grade you're traveling on, etc. The interplay between electric assist and turbo boosted power and lack of extended periods of electric boost definitely make one aware this is not attempting to be a Prius. But I am finding it quite easy to attain EPA published fuel figures and that is with upsized, and E Load rated knobby all terrains which is a beautiful thing.
