Rhino Rack Reconn…the way to go!!

Installed my Rhino Rack over the weekend. Crazy great quality and happy I waited for the launch. Here are my thoughts:

• Quality is top notch, follow directions to the letter and it will install nicely.
• No generic spacers, custom Rhino Rack OEM style roof brackets attach to roof mounts and then rack attaches to those. Was not a fan of generic spacer/RTV sealant approach with others.
• Style is by far my favorite with front fairing having some great design to it.
• With my massive tent on top, wind noise is nothing to worry about. Didn’t drive without tent, but imagine it’s minimal noise coming from rack with the design of it.
• Solid, solid, solid design. They have 2 extra padded feet that sit in channel towards front which is nice. Toyota misses the boat on not adding forward mounts on the LC.
• If you have a tent, find some rubber channel inserts or you will hear vibrating/rattle across the bars that don’t have a tent mount on them. Kinda annoying, but I’m sure someone sells rubber channel inserts to isolate tent across those bars. Not unique to this rack, but I’ve always had trucks so first SUV with a tent on top.

Sides of rail you’ll need to remove the 2 screws on each side if you want to add mounts after install so you can lift rail up to insert. Top, they leave a cutout on side so you can slide in bracket if it’s installed.

It really is a great looking rack, mounting design is similar to the Sherpa. Can you tell me how tall the rack is at the back in front of the shark fin?

I’d say it sits 1/2” higher than top of fin. Didn’t measure, but here’s a pic.

You happen to have a sunroof do you? I’m wondering if it blocks it somewhat. I like how the wind fairing sits a little further back but think it may cover the sunroof.

The cross bars have slots on top and sides. So as long as you have a t-slot bracket mount I don’t see the issue. You can even use their rooftop tent brackets as well. They basically mount to side of cross bar and give you a screw hole to mount things.

The install vid says that in order to install the front pair of feet, you’re supposed to cut the weather stripping.

Wondering if you think it’d be possible to just place the feet on top of the rubber stripping without cutting out a section?

I’d say yes, if you run rack all the way up it might work. I wanted my rack as close to roof as possible so it wouldn’t work on mine. It’s honestly super easy to cut the stripping. Barely attached, just lift from front rack mount point and cut with heavy duty metal shears. It’s rubber with a thick metal rod in center. Just don’t lift all the way to front windshield and mess it up where it mounts up there.

Thanks for the reply. Hmmm. I am just not sure I want to cut the stripping, in case I want to change the rack out. Although I’m sure we can just order new stripping..

Another solution is to skip the front pair of mounts entirely. There are 4 pairs it seems like. As long as it doesn’t cause flutter or vibration I think I may do that.

How’s the wind noise and mpg hit? (With nothing on the rack)

Also, it doesn’t look like there’s any adjustability for the wind deflector or rack height, am I correct?

Don’t skip front legs, you need them. Even other brands have added them as well. Honestly, even if you went with another rack, you won’t ever see the weather stripping. Heck, I didn’t even put the part back in behind the legs after install. Just get new pieces down the road if you really wanted to put them back. Even if you sold it, doubt anyone would even notice you trimmed it.
