Rear License plate screws are tight?

I recently just purchased a new 2025 LandCruiser. I still haven’t received a plate yet. Mine came with tape covering the holes for the rear plate. I decided to remove it and test out screws. I tried to fit M6 - 1.0x20mm screws… it starts to thread but after 2 rotations it gets very tight.

I got scared and stopped. Should I keep screwing it in and see what happens? Or anyone have similar experience?

No, the screws should thread smoothly. If they bind up after two turns, they aren't the right thread pitch.

I measured my license plate screws that came with mine and they are M6x1.0 (had planned to order some torx screws but haven’t yet).
Maybe there’s paint in the threads and dealers usually just crank them in. Do you have a tap you can clean the threads with?

I’m planning to contact dealership to see if they have any screws they can give me. Will update
