2025 Land Cruiser 250 Prado
Hello,

I just traded in my much loved 5th gen 4runner for a 2025 land cruiser prado in Eastern Canada.

At 800km on the odometer, I embarked on my annual flyfishing expedition to Gaspe, Quebec for atlantic salmon. I usually do 3000km on these trips, and over the years I've adapted my tire choices from rugged offroad to a decent AT tire that can handle big highway mileage, and decent offroad handling for steep trails in the river valleys. Gaspe is very tame with the offroad requirements. That being said, the Michelin LTX trail tires included check every box for my flyfishing adventures.

After 2 weeks of incredible fishing from Resticouche, Matapedia, Grand Cascapedia, Bonaventure, York and Dartmouth rivers, I found a screw in my tire on beginning of my 8-hour drive home.

I was THRILLED to find a full-sized, matching spare, with a matching rim. 30 minutes later, I was on my way home.
I'm really enjoying my new fishing vehicle, but this was the icing on the cake. Full sized spare with a matching rim is fantastic! I hit my favorite tire shop once I arrived home and had a patch applied.

I've read some regret threads about the new 250 -- but honestly, I read the same threads about my 2015 4runner 10 years ago. I'm happy to say that I'm very pleased with the new LC, and I love this new hybrid drive train for my purposes.

I've been lurking for a while, but I just wanted to say hello.

regards,

-Rob

Welcome to the forum Rob! For sure, a BIG thanks to Toyota for including a full-size matching spare! Sadly, this luxury is rapidly disappearing on vehicles. Just now optioning out a 2025 4Runner, and only a temporary spare, but at least a spare. Why not a LC? At our advanced ages we need a power running board, and sadly not (yet) offered on the LC.

Thanks for the welcome!

I took the HEAVY sliders off my 4runner prior to trade-in, and I decided to leave the running boards on the LC. They were awfully nice for myself and my aging friends during our trip. I'm 47 this year, and still referred to as a "young fella" in the salmon camp.... running boards are edging out the usefulness over sliders for me these days, sad but true. Power running boards are the next progression :D I like my fishing companions to be comfortable.

I test-drove a 4r limited nightshade a few years back, and the power running boards were very nice. The same trim (limited) had a matching rim and tire -- but toyota painted the spare rim yellow...... yeesh

Yes. Full-size spare tire is must for off-road vehicle.
Beside the full-size spare tire, everyone should carry thìs “tire patch kit” (as you do with floor jack + tire replacement tools) just in case you got the simple nail/screw shown in your attached tire photo.
These kind of fix you can do it while outback then you always have “ready-to-use” spare tire…

absolutely! I've got that squirrelled away in the rear tool compartment, which I also love about the LC. I've plugged quite a few tires with those, and some blackflies. Essential offroad gear.

I put two plugs in the missus' mitsubishi outlander recently. It has the third row and the accompanying can of goop instead of a spare tire. The goop was TOTALLY worthless. I apologized to the tire tech that had to scoop it out when we rolled in on day-saving plugs.

I bought the Glue Tread repair kit. IMHO, the quality of the tools in the kit make it a worthwhile investment. I do love the full size spare, but when you spend time off-road, it's nice to have a repair kit in the truck! Enjoy your new LC :)
