Getting back in to 4 x 4 now that I'm in Santa Cruz as apposed to the Valley. I have had a couple of Wranglers in the past and a couple of Toyota trucks. My Heritage Blue LC LC is coming in next week and I have a chance to do port installed options still. Question to everyone that may know. I have opted for the rear diff skid plate, it is my understanding that the engine and transmission already have skid plates, but I saw a post saying they are plastic? is this true? if so I will do the skid plate upgrade.

If interested, I got it at MSRP, they where asking $4k over MSRP, but I'm finding its not hard to get that knocked off with a good value for my Lexus on trade. Comes with 18's and front disconnects along with the premium package and a few other options.

Thanks in advance

Ross

It is my understanding the stock skid plate is plastic. I opted for the skid plate package ($805), and the rear differential skid plate ($355). That differential skid plate had best be something robust for the price... Update - located photos, and it appears very sturdy and well-done.

Welcome! And get the skid plate upgrade unless you plan to put on your own set of aftermarket skid plates. The factory front skid plate is very thin metal, the transmission skid plate is plastic. The upgraded ones are thicker steel.

I would and am doing skids on the wife's 1958 as the front is thin gauge steel with the rest plastic, Just need to decide if i am going OE+ or AM.
I am born and raised in SC for 38yrs and outside of a few just OK trails there is noting worth noting off-road wise in SC and you will need to head south and south east for any real fun.

We will be down in SC a month from now and if you see a white Ranger raptor with Washington plates say HI!
