2025 LC 1958
Hello all.

My 2014 white 4Runner was rear ended on the DC beltway and was totaled in June and I brought home a white 1958 LC last weekend.

The dealer had added a real leather interior but failed to list it and include the cost in the online listing so I got them to keep it the advertised price.

I was very unhappy with Toyota switching to the highbred engine's but I love everything about them now after driving it for a week.

This forum has already helped me find all my upcoming mods.

I have a 2024 1958, meteor shower. I felt the same way, but took a chance. I have had zero issues after one year.

Welcome!

I am sorry about your 4Runner. I hope you came out of that OK.

Good score on the leather upgrade. I have heard from a number of peope how they aren't happy about Toyota's switch from the V6 to the turbo four cylinder. After driving a '25 4Runner (non-hybrid) against a previous generation 4Runner with the V6 and now driving the Land Cruiser, I can't say I am disappointed with the new power train. While I don't think Toyota designed these to be drag racers, it gets up and does pretty well and does great on the highway. I have a few friends who have older 4Runners and Tacomas, and really think they should take the newer platforms out for a drive to open their minds a bit.

I traded in my beloved 2010 4Runner Trail with ~200k on the odo for a '25 1958, after the T4R succumbed to rust. I'd have definitely preferred a V6 too, and after driving the LC for a little while now I stand by that. The hybrid moves it along just fine it just sounds pathetic and is a little clunky at very slow speeds sometimes, as it switches between gas and electric.

It's pretty wild how similar the 2010 4Runner Trail edition is to the 1958. Cloth seats, hard plastic everywhere, buttons and switches over screens and tech, and the cargo area is very similar. It's been an easy switch.

I loved everything about the 5th gen 4Runner. I put a 2.5 inch lift with 18" XD rims and 275/70/R18's, and had it for 11 years with not one issue.

Checked out the new ones and they ruined the trunk space with the new rear seats and it doesn't look like an off road vehicle to me anymore.

Hoping for better times in the LC!

Is the Land Cruiser perfect? Of course not. I am still in a "getting to know you" phase with ours. We have the Premium which comes with lots of nanny systems, so between the downshifts, automatic braking etc. it has been changing the way I drive. I believe the transmission is capable of smoother downshifts if you do some preemptive braking before the nanny kicks in. Acceleration and upshifts are also smoother when you maintain longer following distances and avoid awakening the nannys. I'll admit these modern safety systems are new to me.

While I am still breaking in the vehicle, I am going easy on it and keeping it mostly in "normal" mode, but the "sport" mode is a different driving experience for shift points and RPMs. I have been going pretty easy on the throttle and trying to keep it out of boost as much as possible, and allowing the hybrid system to kick in as much as possible and maintaining varied RPM. Compared to some hybrid vehicles I have driven (I'm talking about YOU Ford Explorer), the Land Cruiser is pretty smooth when it transitions back & forth from battery to engine.

The four cylinder exhaust note/engine sound is going to be a fact of life. If I was really concerned, I'd be looking at the TRD exhaust system to change that up. I might one day, but it isn't a huge priority at the moment for me.

Yeah, the automatic braking jumped in at a pretty bad time in traffic just yesterday. Was rolling along and tried to change lanes but it jammed the brakes on with me in the middle of two lanes. It was embarrassing but I guess I either need to adapt or disable it. We have the same system in the Lexus TX my wife drives and sheโ€™s had it just stop and refuse to move when there was snow blocking the sensor.
