Hey everyone,
Hope you're all doing well!

I'm from Belgium and thinking about ordering an LC250 with the 2.8 diesel.
Unfortunately, the prices here in Europe are quite a bit higher compared to North America. But honestly, price isn’t my biggest worry — I’m more concerned about future regulations, especially all the new restrictions on diesel engines in Europe.
In Belgium, the current plan is to ban the sale of diesel cars and limit their access to Low Emission Zones (mostly the centers of big cities).
From what I’ve heard, entering a Low Emission Zone with a banned diesel will cost €35 per day, and you'll only be allowed to do it 25 times per year.

So I wanted to get your thoughts — do you think it still makes sense to order one?

As far as I know, there’s no plan to offer the LC250 with a petrol engine here.
My idea is to keep the car for many years, but if restrictions keep getting tighter, I might not even be able to drive it where I need to.
Would love to hear your opinions!

Hi buddy, my personal opinion, do not buy diesel. You will feel stifled. You will not be able to enjoy this LC if you have restrictions, fines, limitations and pollution issues in your mind.

No idea why Toyota hasn’t offered the petrol hybrid version in Europe.

yes it’s interesting, we only have the option of diesel here in Australia, primarily because the unavailability of petrol in a lot of remote places that people like to travel and because of our vast distances travelled - with mine I can get 1000 km from a tank (110 ltrs). There are US imports here - RAM, Silverados with big V8’s etc that have to be very careful when travelling outback.
There are some very smart cookies here in Australia ( Just Autos Mechanical) that modify the diesels - multi ecu mapping larger 4” exhaust systems, different air cleaner boxes to make them perform so much better than standard.

Not sure wether we are different or not but there has been a downturn in people buying electric vehicles even though the Chinese are dumping them here very cheaply, that were supposed to be so much more environmentally friendly than ice vehicles but this is turning out to be not so much as stated and ther is also the problem of the batteries overheating and catching fire. I would by the diesel any day as I am very happy with mine.

Look into importing (buying from Overseas) a petrol version. Work out that option and see what it will cost you.

You can check out some of the big names car sales groups based out of Dubai UAE that sell both LH and RH drive vehicles new locally and export too. Milele is one of those groups check them out. Keep us posted.

Toyota was trying to designing 2.4 petrol with Europe in mind, but they figured out that they couldn't hit the numbers needed for Euro 7 class engine as they were planned. However EU changed the emission limits few years back, but it was too late. The car was too far into (pre)production planning and they decided to sell 2.8 diesel in Europe for few years. I have no clue why they didn't start with 48V hybrid from start thou (they will be available as hybrid diesels from end of the year on).

There is company in Poland importing them, they cost 95k€+, which is around 10k+€ over diesel. Add to that complications with warranty and servicing... it's not worth it.

If you live in LEZ or plan to commute often there.. no, it doesn't make sense. First of all there are many cars better for that use case with lower emissions, consumption and better ride quality for city.

On flip-side, I ordered LC just because it's pure diesel. I use the car for overlanding, I plan to travel around as I did with my Defender. Pure diesel will be more reliable (hopefully) and it's also sold in most third-world countries around Europe. Pure diesel also gets least wasted space in the boot needed for overland.
