Interior Spare Tire Mount?

So, im not a fan of having a rear tire carrier, both look and function wise. Obviously an oversized tired won't fit in the spare tire location (also want an auxiliary tank mounted there when they're available).

Anyone know of an interior spare tire mount similar to that, that Bellfab makes? If not, will someone make me one please 🙏 😂

I’m not aware of one yet for the J250. Have you used a spare in this location previously? I ask only because folks are often surprised how much the tire smell builds up inside the cabin over time. I don’t really mind it too much, but my family certainly does.

Good point, I don't think I would mind and perhaps there are steps to take to minimize the smell? Might be a cross that bridge when I get there situation. I'm pretty set on trying to store the tire in rather than out. But, Idk. I could probably do a little more research for a rear tire carrier than retains review/backup and 360 camera function.
 
I would just put it in the back flat without a mount (you could strap it down to the cargo tie down points if you were worried about projectiles), and then leave it there for a few days. Easy way to find out before you spend money. Hope you find a good solution that works for you! Whatever you choose, you will have people telling you about their way that’s better.

I appreciate the suggestion! I'm actually going to do that this weekend. You make a good point.
 
While it would be possible to fab a mount in that location, it would require a lot of compromise on the existing storage spaces and probably require the mounts removal to replace the 12v battery. (something to keep in mind during your design process) There just aren't many solid body attachment points without cutting into the cargo floor panel.

Thanks for the photos, really helps me get a good look. I haven't actually got in the back to check the viability of having a spare mounted. I'm guessing based on these photos the floorboard clips in the back are not attached to the main body?
 
this rally edition has tire inside as well. this is what i would do if I didn't want a rear tire carrier. everybody with 35s is thinking of options, too. i've ran them on my roof rack, but that's a bunch of real estate. some tracks i've driven on in Australia required minimum 2 spare tires to be allowed entry.
 
The actual Hybrid battery is bolted to the cargo floor and the metal cover (you see in the pictures) is bolted over the battery, to the cargo floor. There are fans, wiring etc...... also under the cover. Then the cargo padded floor is Bolted and plastic fastener, to the battery cover.

If I were going to fab an inside "upright" mount..... I would fab some posts utilizing the existing factory bolts/threaded holes, that would be just tall enough to end at the underside of the existing cargo padded floor. Take an 1/8" thick plate (place the tire on top to get the general ideal of width and length) and through bolt it to the posts, along with some "nut zerts" in the battery cover (insuring the nuts zerts wouldn't interfere with anything) Then build an "A" frame from that base. Then attach a brace from the jack cradle to the rear of the "A" frame at lug nut height.

But without actually taking the trim panels off and measuring and seeing how much fabrication would be needed, I don't know if this approach is feasible.

Lastly, I would attach a safety cable through bolted to the floor so that if a rollover occurred, I wouldn't have to dance the tango with the spare tire.......LOL

If I just wanted the spare inside..... build a platform with enough room underneath for the spare to lay flat. And probably put the entire thing on sliders.

Now that it's finally cooling off, might just get a wild hair a fk around with some tubing and poking around to see where i could actually anchor some type of a frame. I've also thought about just having a platform that I could weld/bolt an existing tire carrier to like the one I've attached.

The most important thing, IMO, would be securing what ever mount to the floor and preventing it from horizontal movement of the rather heavy tire/wheel and ripping the entire mount from the floor. That could be accomplished with a tube from the jack cradle, but would require a hole in the jack trim panel and permanent evidence or a new trim piece should you ever decide to sell. Should you decide on a platform you could order 2 additional OEM tiedown points and fit them in etc.....
