So this just happened last night. I have a 24 & my neighbor moved out & handed me the keys to my new 93’ cruiser.
Anything I should be warned about regarding the 80 series?

Thank you everyone, my son is about to be one year old this 9th & I look forward to restoring it with him.

That's great. I have a 1992 LR Defender 90, but since I got my 2024 LC, I want to trade it for a 60 series..old and new...

Yes, very important to know about the 80....where the title is. So cool, congrats.

As mentioned, spend time on ih8mud. It’s a vast resource for 80 series (and other vintage LCs).

The 1FZ-FE engine is very robust but not without its weaknesses. Your cooling system is what you need to be keenly aware of. If your radiator is old, probably time for a replacement, along with the heater control valve and the pesky heater hose. Gotta keep those engine temps below ~200° to protect your head gasket. When I got my ‘96 with 180k on the odometer, I took it to a LC speciality shop and spent a bunch of money to have it baselined, including all the aforementioned. The head gasket had been replaced at around 150k and I wanted to protect that for miles to come. Now it never gets above 190° (prior to the work it would creep up to 220° on occasion when the weather was hot and the AC was on.

Does your “D” light work? 😉

Had a 1991 that was terribly underpowered and didn’t brake the best. Absolutely loved it!
I think the power issues were resolved in the 93 model but not 100% certain. Sold it 18 years ago, seen it , albeit with a different front fender on the road rather frequently until a couple years back,
I think it had 250k on the clock when I sold it.

No it does not LOL. I took it to my father in laws shop & did a tune up but have a whiteboard of parts already listed. I just bought a set of 3” dobinsons because the 80 feels like it’s riding on nothing but springs. The truck had been sitting since 2023 & the previous owner bought it in 2020 with icon 2.0’s. I ordered a new throttle cable & pcv valve but it’s starting to die out on me @ random red lights. Needs new brakes too….. my 1 year old son loves that 80 series so naturally I’ve found myself in the deep pits of owning 80 series 🙃

Well of course all 1 year-olds love the 80 series. I got mine when my grandson was 1, so makes perfect sense.
