2025 LC250
I am looking for ways to essentially make my LC a "dumb car". In the sense it's not recording or sending any of my information. I know there are ways to disable the selling of data. But the car still is connected to the network. Is there a way to disable that via software or some some of hardware modification? It also seems according to the manual that the car records your driving. Is there a way to disable that as well? Call me paranoid but I kind of despise that modern vehicles know so much. Thank you!

Absolutely with you on this. I don’t use the Toyota app and did everything I could to do to make them forget me and my information. Opted out of everything I could.

I would avoid using the Toyota dash cam as that thing collects a metic s**t ton of info on your driving.

Another thread started on this... Let figure out a solution for disabling the DCM telematics - Silencing Antennas

I'm with you. I opted out of everything and never signed up for the Toyota app. If you're getting something for 'free'.. they are monetizing it somehow. I think I read awhile back Ford makes more money off the data it sells than the car itself.

I feel privacy in this day and age is a thing to value. If folks need the app to tell them their LC is unlocked, then by all means, use the app. I have to ask with all these apps/devices, is the trade-off worth it?

Another reason people use the app is for the remote start. If you didn’t know you can still remote start your truck with your key fob. It’s just limited to the working distance of the fob.
Thanks for posting the link D-Train.

I was thinking to make an aluminum foil hat for my rooftop antenna…
Awesome idea.. maybe I can match the one I wear on my head?

I think you might be missing the point. Do you know who Toyota sells all the data to, or where it winds up? I sure don't. The last thing you want is that data getting back to your auto insurance provider without your consent. I don't drive like a maniac, but it's not the speed limit either...

Don't you carry your cell phone when you drive?

I don't have a hat, but it's covered by an aluminum rooftop tent. How does one know if the signal is or isn't blocked?

I know your argument, so just give up? I will not. Any piece you can deny information gathering makes it a little bit harder to complete or expand a profile on you.

Everything you do is processed and stored, not necessarily analyzed, wat too much data, but that is coming.
Don't waste time and money with feeble attempts, this forum, your banking and purchase activities, everything you do on line, medical records, grocery store and so much more, everything. Any low level privacy attempts or illusions are exactly that, an illusion.
Don't worry, be happy. You have no choice.

Of course the only thing that has been limiting so far is the technology, thats changing quickly, very quickly.
Carry on.
