Does the new Land Cruiser also have an alternator as a backup in case the hybrid battery fails, like the 6th gen 4Runner does? video mentions this around the 8:10 mark. It sounds like a very useful feature.

no the Land Cruiser doesn’t have an alternator. The 4Runner only gets an alternator on the hybrid version if it has AUX switches.

I was looking at 4runners before buying the LC. No wonder that switch option was so expensive, Toyota didn't mention it included an alternator!
Now the question: Can an alternator be added to the LC? I suppose it would only be of limited help in powering accessories, but I sure like the idea of a backup charging system for the 12v.

I hope so, but it sounds like there could be more involved, like a software update?
He mentioned that for the 4runner, the hybrid would just shut off and the engine can run like the hybrid didn't exist. I don't think the LC would do that right now if an alternator was installed.
Ours just bricks if something goes wrong with the hybrid system....
That blows for us.
