I've tried the "upper tray" piece and it allows very easy and visible access, but it's inconvenient (and possibly dangerous) to access anything below the tray while driving.

There's also the "vertical 4 section" option that is available as a downloadable file for 3D printers. Has anyone tried that one? My local library offered to print it for me at no cost, which is pretty cool.

I'm trying to avoid using it as one big dumping ground. I like to have a number of small items handy in my vehicle, and like them organized and accessible. Thanks for any ideas..

I have one of the regular trays with no separators and like it a lot. I believe most designs are based on the limit of allowing for a soda can standing vertically underneath.

That makes sense but leaves an opportunity to make a deeper tray with only room for cans laying on their side below.

The deeper trays could be combined with a configurable divider like this example below providing the best of both worlds. 2-3 drinks plus a flexible and useful space.

Not gonna happen easily. It has its own hvac lines/connections. Maybe in another year some crazy owner will figure it out but right now it’s very involved.
