Just a question on the the 20" rims and off-roading.....I assuming that the 18s would be preferred.....My question would be be why some LCs are built with the 20s and the SDM.....one would seem for the street (20s), and the SDM is for the dirt......Help me to make sense of this.....

The 20" rims are not unusable for off-roading in rocky country, just not generally preferred by seasoned off-roaders. I go back to the days of 16" wheels, but they are sadly no longer.

I don't do a whole lot of offroading per se, but I do drive gravel roads quite a bit. Switching to 18's several years back certainly resulted in a big ride quality difference.

Please explain. 18''s resulted in a softer ride?

Because they can tack on the cost/profit for the 20" wheels. Not every combination makes logical sense. Most people, won't take their Land Cruiser "off road," or even off pavement for that matter. Parking in grass for a concert or soccer game will be the most off road most LC's will see. I have the 20", I like them, I go down dirt roads or drive across a field, I off pavement, I don't off road.

Just like SET is throwing Nitto Ridge Grapplers on every LC they can, well most of them... Which is an awful tire BTW, on pavement at least.
